Club news - 02/07/18
Lots and lots has been going on since the last proper update. Here goes:
18th and 19th May was the Greenbelt Relay. If any of you missed Andy Wingate’s race report, it’s online.
24th May was the first official club AGM. Thanks to all of you who attended and made for a really positive evening. Asides from the formal agenda, we found time for a few drinks as well as a fantastic raffle which swelled club coffers and many of us left with great prizes.
9th and 10th June was Convergence. Rodney set-of from Backpool to Hope, arriving with around 30 minutes of the 24 hour cut-off to spare. His race report is also online. As if this wasn’t enough, he followed it up with the parkrun longest day. Not how most people return from injury…
16th June saw Ciaran Murphy register his 500th parkrun. Congratulations to Ciaran on this fantastic achievement. He also brought a seemingly endless supply of drinks along with him for us all to enjoy. Beers at 9:30am are always welcomed!
24th June was the Harry Hawkes 10. Or the Harry Hill 5, as Ciaran refers to it. After some pretty useless performances last year, we generally ran well. In particular, special call out to Tom Parmiter for his excellent run! The annual drinks in the sunshine on the cricket club balcony followed :-)
26th June was the Imber Court Relays. Thanks to Rodney for taking the lead in organising teams. We turned out 3 teams of 4 runners and some super performances. Well done all, just a pity the queue for the BBQ took so long…
27th June saw the Arethusa Beer Mile. Back for a second year, the Beer mile saw a surge in numbers as many others decided to join the fun. Based on feedback the numbers could continue to swell in the future. A great fun evening was had.
Many other excellent performances from club runners in other road and track races too in the past month or so. Well done all!
Coming up soon, don’t forget we have the Wedding Day 7k on Friday 27th July. Anticipating a great turnout from the club. If you aren’t running please try and head down to support others taking part. It will be a great night and if the last couple of years are anything to go by, it may well end up with an Arethusa midnight mile…
In upcoming non-running news, on Saturday 14th July, Charlie Chandler is featuring as part of The Dukes of Rock at The Swan in Hampton Wick. Hope to see another good contingent of us for a good night out; any special requests just let Charlie know!
