What’s going on with all things SHAEF Shifters I hear you ask?Well we had a great turnout for The Big Half. Yours truly managed to secure the SHAEF shield, for a combination of a faster than expected 13.1 as well as having the foresight to book a table at a Greenwich boozer for post-race to refuel. A great time was had by all.
Last weekend Rodney and myself strapped our marathon boots on to complete the Thames Meander and Southend Pier marathons respectively. Mine was a simple out and back, whereas Rodney’s was out and back, out and back, out and back … repeat to fade until you’ve clocked 26.2. Sounded like fun. If you ask him I am sure he’ll tell you all about it!
This weekend, look out for Not the London Marathon on Sunday. An informal running meet-up in Bushy Park besides the big tree. The gun goes at 9am-ish running 5k laps of the old parkrun course alternating backwards and forwards. You can come to support, run a lap, or run several, and once you are done have some food and encourage others. Terrific fun and with the turns and loops and mixtures of paces you’ll pretty much always have someone to run with. Not a SHAEF organised event but I am sure many of us will be there and the more the merrier. It may mean the regular Sunday morning 8am run doesn’t happen, or you might want to get an hour head start on the others.
Those of you waiting for club kit will be happy to know the wait is almost over. The kit is in production and we are expecting to have it in a week or so. We’ll let you know once it is received and dish it out.Affiliation of club members with EA is also in the process of being complete. Those of you moving across from another club should be transferred now and Louise is going through the process of logging the rest of you under SHAEF with EA. She’ll reach out to you I she needs any info. On that note, those of you that haven’t yet joined please do so. Next month (or rather post London Marathon) will be the club AGM and obviously only those official members will be on the guest list. We have several regulars that haven’t yet actually joined and no excuses accepted. We’ll also be organising some other events as we head into Spring time. We’ll have a midweek club run where everyone is encouraged to bring a non-member along with them amongst other things. There have also been a few people suggesting we move back the midweek run from 6:50pm to 7:30pm -ish. Similar for Sunday mornings. We’ll canvas some more opinion on that one and decide at the AGM if not before.
Adios.
Ian.
